We could each benefit from small changes to our lifestyles here and there to help us improve our daily moods and experiences. So, don’t let your resolutions feel like another ongoing stress on your list. Here are six easy-to-follow suggestions to help you make some happiness happen in the new year.
Get out for some fresh air
Fresh air is a feel-good resolution that many of us often take for granted. Breathing in the outside air is free, simple, and an important way to make ourselves feel better and refreshed. It’s a great way to get some much-needed mind clarity, and it works like a charm.
You don’t have to hike to the top of a mountain to take a big breath of fresh air into your lungs. Over the past two years, we’ve been through tough times where we’ve been encouraged to stay at home, but there’s fresh air on our doorsteps or in our garden areas or local walks. Fresh air carries important, natural properties that we need to feel awake and can make you feel energised, which has a brilliant knock-on effect on how you carry out your day.
Keep up a daily routine
Our lives have changed massively since the beginning of the Covid19 pandemic. Some things have changed for the better, and some for the worse. One practice that a lot of us have lost is our daily routines.
A change that many of us have had to adhere to is working from home- this meant limited human interaction and loss of routine. You wake up later than you would if you were going to work, and eat later, and eat a lot more, and don’t leave the house some days, and have to juggle childcare with work, and no longer differentiate the living room with your new workspace.
Although there are many benefits and positives to working at home, our daily routine must come first. We need structure, and familiarity, especially during a pandemic where times can feel uncertain. Put a list on the wall of what you want to achieve that day by certain times, put a wash on before work, go for a walk on your dinner hour, wear something that’s not pyjamas, fit in a mini-workout somewhere, but whatever you do with your day, make sure it’s the same every day!
Be more honest
The thing with honesty is, it helps you to be more you. If you don’t really want to say yes to something, you’ll feel much more confident and in control of your life when you’ve said no. And, a lovely plus of being honest is that it helps us with communication, which helps everything! You hold all of your choices in your hands, so give it a whirl. You might surprise yourself with a newfound love for power and inner confidence.
Keep up your colour
There’s a reason eating healthy comes to mind when it comes to New Year’s resolutions. Eating better helps us to feel energised, fresh-minded and motivated. Just five pieces of fruit and veg a day can make you feel good and keep the doctor away too! Fruit and veg have long been considered beneficial for our health- there is just something about these delicious, colourful foods that seem to work wonders on our minds and bodies.
We understand that healthy eating is more challenging than ever (given a carby takeaway is always seconds away from being ordered right to your doorstep). But, this resolution is a cycle you need to commit to. You can eat better, feel better, and live better. Just as easy as you can eat bad, feel bad, and live in lethargy.
So, start with a smoothie or fruity snack instead of a hot chocolate and biscuit, and take note of how different you feel throughout the day. Only you can make this change and earn the feel-good reward. You have our support every step of the way! If you don’t believe us? Check out our January Health Kick Blog.
Dedicate some time
Time is an essential factor when it comes to your feel-good lifestyle. You absolutely need to put yourself first when it comes to time. Whether it’s time on your own, time with friends and family, time with partners, time with your pets, time with your hobbies, time outside in the fresh air, time exercising, time reading, time painting, or time cooking!
It’s easy to let another year pass us by where we haven’t done what we’ve wanted to, so make 2022 the year to put yourself first and make time for what and who makes you feel good.
Get your wiggle on
Forget everything you thought you knew about taking up exercise as a New Year’s resolution. We don’t mean harsh diets and strict exercise regimes to re-create yourself- you’re great the way you are. We’ve had a hard enough few years as it is, and we want you to feel good in yourself and not be pushed or pressured in any way!
We mean enjoy yourself by taking some time here or there to go for a walk, something small and pleasurable rather than something hard to repeat. Walks are lovely as you can combine a feel-good hobby with fresh air, time, and routine.
Maybe you have a friend that goes for a run now and then? Join them and give it a try, and laugh in the process, another feel-good factor. Perhaps there is a sport that you loved as a child that you’ll pick up the knack again in no time? Ever tried a beginners YouTube yoga lesson? Test that flexibility! Fancy yourself at your local Zumba class? Get your wiggle on and surprise yourself, and possibly make some new friends in the process.
Your year, your way!
It’s never too late to turn over a new leaf or try something new. The world is your oyster, and we’ve never had so much time to work on ourselves as we have during the pandemic. Even one of the above feel-good resolutions can help you with motivation, drive, and self-confidence.
Indulge the time you have and always, always, always, feel good.
